Türkiýe talyplyk wizasy (D-3) gollanmasy

A complete step-by-step guide to Turkey's D-3 student visa: application process, required documents, fees, processing times and residence permit — by Umar Egitim.

What is the Turkey Student Visa (D-3)?

The D-3 student visa is the official entry visa issued by the Republic of Turkey to international students who have been accepted to undergraduate, graduate or doctoral programs at Turkish universities. It is the only legal way to enter Turkey for the purpose of full-time study and must be presented at the airport or border crossing. The same visa type also covers TOMER Turkish language courses.

Once issued, the D-3 grants you the legal right to reside and study in Turkey throughout your academic program. The visa can be single-entry or multiple-entry, and within 30 days of arrival you must apply for a residence permit (ikamet izni). At Umar Egitim, we provide free end-to-end guidance — from document preparation and consulate appointment booking to residence permit follow-up.

Visa Application Process — 3 Steps

The Turkey D-3 visa process consists of three core steps. First, you must obtain an official acceptance letter from a Turkish university — Umar Egitim partners with 50+ state and foundation universities. Second, with that acceptance letter, you apply for a student visa at the Turkish Consulate in your home country. Third, once approved, the visa is affixed to your passport and you are cleared to enter Turkey.

Consulate appointments fill up quickly during the high season (June-October), so we strongly recommend booking immediately after receiving your acceptance letter. Some countries route applications through iDATA, VFS or directly at the consulate — Umar Egitim advisors identify the correct channel for your country and prepare your document list.

Required Documents

Turkish consulates require the following documents. Submitting a complete and properly notarized/apostilled file is the single most important factor in avoiding rejection.

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months (original + copy)
  • Original acceptance letter from the Turkish university
  • Completed and signed visa application form
  • 2 biometric photos taken within the last 6 months
  • Bank statement proving financial capacity for the duration of studies
  • Health insurance covering Turkey, valid for at least 1 year
  • High school / bachelor's diploma and transcript (apostilled)
  • Visa fee payment receipt

Visa Fees and Processing Times

The Turkey D-3 student visa fee ranges roughly between 50 and 150 USD depending on the country of application. Reciprocity rules mean EU citizens pay different rates than Middle Eastern or Asian applicants, and a few nationalities are fully exempt. Always confirm the current fee on the official consulate website before applying.

Processing typically takes 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the consulate, season and completeness of your file. During summer months it can extend to 6 weeks. Some consulates offer expedited processing for an additional fee. Drawing on data from 1000+ Umar Egitim student applications, we provide accurate timing estimates for your specific case.

Residence Permit Process

After entering Turkey on a D-3 visa, you must apply for a residence permit (ikamet izni) within 30 days. The application is made online through the Directorate General of Migration Management portal (e-ikamet.goc.gov.tr). Missing or late applications can result in deportation.

For the student residence permit you will need a rental agreement (or dormitory letter), student certificate, health insurance, biometric photo and fee receipt. Your residence card typically arrives by PTT mail within 4-8 weeks. Umar Egitim staff in Istanbul and Ankara accompany students to appointments and prepare all documents including rental and insurance.
